MODEST CAVES
Haynes: easy cave with saltpeter workings
Higganbothams #1, #2, #3, and #4: Do four easy caves in one day!
Piercy’s Mill: Includes a room of 8-foot deep rimstone dams
Pocahontas Poor Farm: Easy access with walking passages and a few squeezes
Sinks of Sinking Creek: Short cave, big passage, thru trip
MODERATE CAVES
Benedicts: Big, mostly horizontal cave with optional entrance drop
Bone-Norman: Long lower stream passage, caves linked thru the “Devil’s Pinch”, easy access
Buckeye Creek: Classic WV big stream passage, just over the hill from the WVACS Field station
Dry: A wet cave with (yet another) long stream passage and virgin upper-level passage waiting to be surveyed
Windy Mouth: A mile hike + wade leads to 20+ miles of cave with an 800’ entrance crawl.
LONG CAVES
Boar Hole-Portal: Three entrances into 11+ miles.
Culverson: A premier WV water cave, 20+ miles long
Friars Hole: 40+ miles with many entrances and trip options
The Hole: 20+ miles
McClungs: 20+ miles, 2 entrances. Vertical entrance will be open. Horizontal one might be.
Organ: Lipps entrance to 40+ miles with a commercial section
Simmons-Mingo: Strenuous thru trip under a mountain
VERTICAL CAVES
Carpenter-Swago: Thru trip with two vertical entrances
Lost World (aka Grapevine): 100’ rappel into a commercial cave with walkout
Maxwellton: 10+ miles with a number of short drops. Some of the main stream passage needs to be surveyed
McClungs: 20+ miles, 2 entrances. Vertical entrance will be open. Horizontal one might be.
Roadside Pit: 70’ pit in a roadside ditch with cave at the bottom
PROJECT CAVES
Dry: Open for surveys in virgin upper-level passage! A wet cave with long stream passage.
Maxwellton: Parts of the main stream passage awaits survey. 10+ miles with a number of short drops.
Boar Hole-Portal: Help wrap up the map with surveying, stream pushes, and digs.
